Delicious skewers of melon and Gran Reserva ham

If there's a perfect Iberian ham dish for the summer that everyone loves, it's melon with Iberian ham. But do you know the trick to prepare perfect melon and serrano ham skewers?

At Enrique Tomas, we're going to share it with you!

Preparation of Melon and Serrano Ham Skewers

Ingredients

  • 80 gr. of Iberian ham (cebo or bellota)
  • 1/2 Galia melon
  • Toothpicks suitable for skewers

Steps

  1. The first thing you need to do is open the package of sliced ham and let the slices come into contact with the air and naturally separate from each other. Use this time to start cutting the melon.
  2. Cut it into slices, and as soon as you have them ready, remove the rind from each of them.
  3. Now that you have the melon, cut it into cubes and place it in a bowl. If you see that the ham is ready, it's time to assemble the skewers.
  4. You can do two things: either make skewers with different pieces of melon or put a single portion on each toothpick; we've opted for the first option.
  5. Take a toothpick and alternate a melon cube with a bit of ham, you can even cut each slice in half, for example. Once your melon and ham skewers are ready, place them on a plate and enjoy!

Tip:
At Enrique Tomás, we've decided to prepare them with Galia melon because it's sweet, always in season, and one of our favorites. But if you want, you can choose any other type of melon.

What to Serve with Melon and Ham Skewers

Melon with ham is a very refreshing dish that you can serve as an appetizer for any meal or accompany with similar dishes. During the summer months, menus featuring these types of preparations are very appealing, so we recommend:

  • Ajoblanco with almonds: To make it, you just need to mix 150 gr. of crushed almonds, 80 gr. of breadcrumbs, three chopped garlic cloves, 170 ml. of olive oil, a tablespoon of vinegar, 550 ml. of cold water, and water. Once everything is integrated, blend it to prevent lumps and let it cool in the fridge.
  • Traditional gazpacho: It's another liquid preparation for the summer that you can make as an alternative to ajoblanco. Wash half a cucumber, a green pepper, and five tomatoes, peel everything, and place it in the blender. Add a garlic clove, half a loaf of stale bread, 80 ml. of olive oil, 80 ml. of white wine, and a little salt, and mix until there are no more lumps. If it's too thick, you can add some water.
  • Caprese salad: Although you can go for any type of salad, this one is very refreshing and easy to make. You only need tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and oil. Start by washing the tomatoes, slicing them, and placing them on a plate. Cut the mozzarella into slices and place them on top of the tomatoes. Drizzle with oil first and then with basil.

Have you seen how simple it is? And now that you've seen what you can serve with your skewers, what are you waiting for to prepare them?

Everyone will love them!
