The Most Traditional Autumn Recipes

August is behind us, and autumn is beginning. It is a time to get back into our usual routines, both at work and when it comes to eating. After the excesses of summer — tapas and snacks at any time of day, sugary desserts, beers and vermouth — it is time to return to a healthy diet that is somewhat more controlled and combined with exercise. To help you do just that, at Enrique Tomás we have put together the most traditional autumn recipes.

Let's face the change of season ahead with energy and feel our best, whatever comes our way, thanks to a good eating routine based on one of the healthiest diets: the Mediterranean diet.

Cleansing Autumn Recipes

Everyone has heard of cleansing diets at some point. The concept involves eating foods that help cleanse our bodies and eliminate toxins and excess fluids, supporting the digestive system. However, this does not mean that we should expect to lose weight or start eating less. The best approach is to follow a balanced diet, replacing some foods with others and increasing our fluid intake. Alcohol and fizzy drinks don't count!

It is generally recommended to follow this type of diet at the beginning of spring and again in autumn. As these are transitional seasons, our bodies benefit from the changes, and it is a good time to help strengthen our immune systems for what lies ahead.

The Best Foods to Include in Autumn Recipes

It is always best to use seasonal produce in dishes that are particularly suited to this time of year, such as vegetable soups and creams:

Celery Celeriac Fennel Pumpkin Carrots Broccoli

If you cannot give up rice or pasta, opt for wholegrain varieties and eat them in moderation. As they are wholegrain, they contain more fibre, vitamins and minerals, as well as fewer calories than regular pasta.

As for seasonal fruit, you can make juices, for example, using oranges. Add a lemon too, thanks to its high vitamin C content.

You can also prepare juices combining fruit and vegetables to help detoxify the liver. Pears, for example, are high in fibre and low in calories. You can combine fruit with green leafy vegetables such as lettuce, spinach or chard. Ingredients such as carrots with a pinch of ginger or turmeric can also have anti-inflammatory properties while adding plenty of flavour and colour to your juices.

There are countless combinations and recipes to try, but our advice is to experiment and find the ones you enjoy most. As we mentioned earlier, feeling good and maintaining a positive mood are important. Although it might seem surprising, a detox diet can help you regain your energy and lift your spirits.

What Are the Most Traditional Autumn Dishes?

As you would expect, at Enrique Tomás we invite you to add jamón to your soups, juices and vegetables for an even more intense flavour. According to scientific studies, jamón de bellota ibérico is not only a delight for the palate but also a superfood, with a high oleic acid content and a lipid profile that gives it anti-inflammatory properties. That is why we are sharing some traditional autumn recipes featuring our star ingredient: jamón ibérico.

Pumpkin Cream Soup with Jamón Ibérico

At this time of year, a warm bowl of soup or cream made with seasonal vegetables is particularly appealing. It helps warm you up while providing the vitamins and minerals your body needs. Pumpkin is one of autumn's star seasonal ingredients, making it an easy and effective addition to your recipes. This dish offers an excellent contrast of flavours, combining the sweetness of pumpkin with the savoury taste of jamón ibérico shavings.

With a few simple ingredients, you can create something truly original: a delicious combination of mushrooms, crispy jamón ibérico, courgette, egg, mixed salad leaves and tomato.

Green Bean, Sweet Potato and Jamón Ibérico Salad

We love salads in autumn and throughout the year. They allow us to combine delicious ingredients while maintaining a healthy diet. For this recipe, we have chosen sweet potato, a seasonal autumn ingredient, which we sauté and combine with green beans and jamón ibérico in whichever format you prefer: slices, shavings or cubes. All three work wonderfully.

These are our culinary suggestions for autumn.
