The Most Traditional Autumn Recipes

August is now behind us, and autumn is beginning: a time to return to our usual routine, both in our working lives and in our eating habits. After the excesses of summer—tapas and snacks at any time of day, sugary desserts, beers, and vermouths—it is time to return to a healthy diet that is somewhat more controlled and combined with exercise. To help you do just that, at Enrique Tomás we want to share the most traditional autumn recipes with you.

Let's face the upcoming change of season with energy and feel vital, whatever comes our way, thanks to a good eating routine based on one of the healthiest diets: the Mediterranean diet.

Cleansing Autumn Recipes

Everyone has heard of cleansing diets at some point. This concept refers to consuming foods that help cleanse our body and eliminate toxins and harmful excess fluids to clean the digestive system. However, this does not mean we should expect to lose weight or reduce the amount of food we eat. The best approach is to follow a balanced diet, swapping some foods for others and increasing our fluid intake. Alcohol and soft drinks do not count!

It is generally recommended to follow a diet of this type at the beginning of spring and again in autumn. As these are transitional seasons, our bodies appreciate the changes, and it is when we can best help strengthen our immune system for what lies ahead.

The Best Foods to Include in Autumn Recipes

It is always best to use seasonal produce in dishes that are suited to this time of year, such as vegetable soups and creams:

Celery Turnip Fennel Pumpkin Carrot Broccoli

If you cannot give up rice or pasta, it is better if they are whole grain and consumed in moderate amounts. Being whole grain, they are richer in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, in addition to having fewer calories than regular pasta.

As for seasonal fruit, you can make juices—for example, orange juice. Add a lemon as well for its high vitamin C content.

You can also prepare juices combining fruits and vegetables to help detoxify the liver; pears, for instance, contain plenty of fiber and few calories. You can add green leafy vegetables to your fruits, such as lettuce, spinach, or Swiss chard. Additionally, foods like carrots with a pinch of ginger or turmeric will act as anti-inflammatories and add plenty of flavor and color to your juices.

There are countless combinations and recipes, but our advice is to experiment and find the ones you enjoy most because, as we mentioned earlier, the important thing is that your mood stays positive and you feel good. Although it might seem otherwise, a detoxifying diet will help you regain your energy and improve your mood.

What Are the Most Traditional Autumn Dishes?

And as it could not be otherwise, at Enrique Tomás we invite you to enliven your soups, juices, and vegetables with jamón: the flavor will be even more intense. As supported by scientific studies, jamón de bellota ibérico is not only a delight for the palate, but a superfood with a high level of oleic acid and a lipid profile that gives it anti-inflammatory power. That is why below we propose traditional autumn recipes featuring our star ingredient: jamón ibérico.

Pumpkin Cream Soup with Jamón Ibérico

At this time of year, a warm bowl of cream soup made with seasonal vegetables is particularly appealing—piping hot to quickly warm you up and, above all, to get that amount of vitamins and minerals the body needs. Pumpkin is one of autumn's star seasonal products, making it simple and very effective to incorporate into your recipes. The contrast of flavors in this recipe is excellent, combining the sweetness of the pumpkin with the savory taste of jamón ibérico shavings.

With a few simple ingredients, we can create a truly original dish: a delicacy made with mushrooms, crispy jamón ibérico, zucchini, egg, mixed salad greens, and tomato.

A classic autumn appetizer featuring one of the most popular ingredients of this time of year: quince paste. If you have the chance to make it homemade, it is sure to be delicious. Here is a recipe on how to prepare it so you can give it a try.

Green Bean, Sweet Potato, and Jamón Ibérico Salad

In autumn, and at any time of year, we love salads. It is a type of dish that allows us to combine delicious ingredients while keeping a healthy diet. In this case, as an autumn seasonal product, we choose sweet potato, which we prepare sautéed and combine with green beans and jamón ibérico in your preferred format: slices, shavings, or cubes. All formats will yield a great result.
